My first Porter standby flight!
As some of you know, my son Mitchell is a First Officer with Porter Airlines, and as his mom, I’m incredibly fortunate to have awesome travel benefits! This means that I can explore new destinations and have unforgettable experiences without breaking the bank. While I have taken advantage of benefits he has had in the past during his time working for Pacific Coastal Airlines and Cargo Jet, where I enjoyed several wonderful trips, the benefits with Porter are even more extensive. They provide access to many more airlines, creating an exciting opportunity for me to travel to places I’ve always dreamed of visiting. I am looking forward to the various adventures that await, from beautiful coastal cities to vibrant urban centers, and I can hardly wait to see where these travel perks will take me next!
E195-E2
today I am flying on Porter’s E195-E2 and was assigned seat 10B. I prefer a window seat, as it offers a chance to gaze out at the world below, but you take what you can get flying standby. On days like today, when it’s cloudy outside, the view is less captivating, with only a blanket of gray skies to catch my attention. Nonetheless, I find it fascinating to see how the clouds shift and change with altitude. At 5’4”, I’ve never really had an issue with leg room, but I have to say I have ample leg room even with my backpack crammed under the seat in front of me. The design of the aircraft makes it quite accommodating, allowing even those with longer legs to stretch a little. I particularly like the double folding table tray that offers an option for my devices, providing the perfect space for my laptop while also allowing for a smaller configuration for meals or snacks. I assume this design is also considerate for larger people, ensuring they have the flexibility to use the smaller option should their tummies require the extra space. As we ascend and the plane levels off, I can already feel my excitement building for the journey ahead, imagining the adventures waiting at my destination.
I ordered the sunrise crepe off the Porter Breakfast menu, which was pretty good and loaded with toppings – colorful fruits, creamy whipped cream, and a drizzle of syrup that made it visually appealing. I found it sweet, but this girl lives for sour, so don’t let my opinion keep you from trying it; I’m sure many would appreciate its sweetness. The portion size was adequate, and I felt full afterwards, which is always a plus for a breakfast option while traveling. I also had a complimentary glass of white Jackson Triggs with my breakfast; no comments from the gallery lol. There were two beverage and snack services on the flight, making it feel quite luxurious, so during the second round, I opted for a refreshing Cracked Canoe beer and one of their delicious shortbread cookies made by “Cookie it up.” The cookie was crumbly, buttery, and impossible to resist, making for a perfect accompaniment to my drink and enhancing the overall flight experience.
I’m super excited to be heading out to visit my daughter Sarah and her partner Mike at their awesome farm! It’s my first time at their place, and I can’t wait to hang out with them. The farm is alive with all sorts of animals, from chickens to some playful pigs and the cutest goats you can imagine—it’s going to be such a fun family get-together. They even jokingly put me in charge of cleaning the goat stall, which will probably be a bit of work but definitely lead to some good laughs and sweet memories. Since this is my 7/8 trip to Vancouver, we won’t be hitting up a lot of the usual tourist spots, but I’m really looking forward to visiting Terry Fox’s grave. It’s such an inspiring place that really makes you think. Plus, the Headstone Historian will be roaming around the cemetery, excited to share some cool stories and historical tidbits, which should make the visit even more interesting. We’re all set to make some amazing memories that I’ll cherish for years!
